Innovation is different in Africa. This chapter considers the means of innovation in Africa before reviewing the context of approaches to intellectual property rights across Africa and a framework for solving intellectual property issues on the continent. In particular, it focuses on the procedural principles and substantial principles that can be followed for an appropriate approach to intellectual property rights in the AfCFTA.
